Macintosh SE

Hi all,

I have just gotten myself an SE for CHF50 and it brings back memories. It was first Mac that I ever used - on Dec. 16, 1989, SuperPaint 1.81. It was a revelation to me. I can only imagine how Steve Jobs felt when he saw the Star in PARC Xerox for the first time. This is how computing should be.

It was made in 1986 - it‘s almost 30 years‘ old. Wow. I can probably run System 4 on it. It has System 6.0.8 on it at the moment and I‘d forgotten how much I like the simplicity of System 6. I had intended to replace the MiniScribe drive, but the constant hum is reassuring in it‘ nostalgia.

On the topic of expansion: It has 4MB RAM, which is enough, and 20MB on the MiniScribe is fine. The only possible expansion that I‘d like to do on it is add ethernet. What PDS options are there for the SE? And are these cards so rare that sneakernet or LocalTalk will have to do? Or are the going the way of the Micron Xceed and becoming unaffordable?

Anyway, here are some pictures of it in my always could be neater mac room.

gotta love OS6...ran fairly well on these machines..system 7.0 and 7.1

really slowed'em down..unless you were using an SE/30 etc..but for

something powerful-yet simple..the SE, was as good as it got..especially

if you were lucky enough to have a laserwriter hook to it...

I don't know all of the ethernet solutions, but Farallon makes the EtherMacSE for the SE PDS.
