Apple IIGS midi help
Posted by: Patnukem on 2008-01-21 01:47:51
I have a program called the music studio and it says it is compatible with midi. I just wanted to know what kind of card I need to get to work with this, I plan on making a midi keyboard with a built in IIGS in a while and just want to make sure I get the right things. Thank you for the help.

Hi,

Not sure you that you really need a card. I guess you find a midi card for an apple II. I think all you need is a midi apple talk like device. It plugs in the seral port in the back. Just a little pig tale type box. I also believe they were used on the early Macs. I picked up mine quite a few years ago on Ebay for $10-15. Just a little larger than an Apple Talk type connector/box.

You may also need a HD or a way to run GSOS with the MIDI driver.

I may be all wrong, If I am some one will surely point it out.

Take Care

I have a MIDI interface for my Mac that is also compatible with the IIGS.

It's a very simple device, just a serial connection to a small box with two MIDI cables on it. Point your app to the correct serial port and it works... at least on the Mac (never used a IIGS).

I remember seeing schematics for one of these on the web at some point in recent history. They're very simple to make, apparently.

Thank you for your help, this forum always helps me more then others even on non mac related issues. If I can find it I may have to try and make it, It could be a lot of fun. I will also post it on here so others can see it if they require it as well.
