iMac G3 (CRT) Ethernet cable
Posted by: Apostrophe on 2008-01-17 15:11:13
Hi everyone,

I have an iMac G3 (CRT). To be more specific it's an Indigo, has a 10 GB HD, and 400 mHz. Anyway, it isn't hooked up to the Internet. I do have a DSL connection on this PC, so Ethernet should work. For those of you who have connected iMacs, what kind of ethernet cable should I use?

Thanks,

-Apostrophe

If you just want to plug the internet from the DSL modem you just have to use a regular Ethernet cable. If you want to plug a computer into the iMac and share the internet you would have to use a crossover Ethernet cable.

Make sure it is Cat5, I tried Cat2 ethernet, no go.....

Erm, does Cat2 even exist? I thought the lowest category was Cat3? (which only supports 10BaseT)

Yes, there's a cat2 (and a cat1). IIRC, there are specifications up to cat7 at the moment.

Cat2 is spec'd to work up to 1Mb/s, so it's not a good choice for ethernet. Might as well use speaker cable. 🙂
