iMac G3 starts bong sound but no display
Posted by: giolicious on 2015-01-21 03:29:48
i have an iMac G3 400mhz without a hard disk that starts fine (bong sound) but no display. i tried 3 different external VGA LCD monitors but none of them displayed anything. Instead all say "input out of range" or something. is it a video card problem?

Sync rate may be off if external doesn't work

Do you have a CRT VGA monitor lying around? As I *vaguely* recall the external monitor port on those models is fixed to run at the same scan rates as the internal CRT, and while most CRT monitors have no problem with said rates many newer (and lower end) LCD monitors get crabby about anything other than a 60hz refresh rate.

Try resetting the PRAM (defaults to standard resolution), and if not it might be the PAV board

I've tried resetting the PRAM but no good.
