Conquest: Finally! an eMac board!!
Posted by: coius on 2007-12-15 23:11:08
Yes, after waiting a month and through 3 auctions, i FINALLY have an eMac board. I hope it arrives soon XD.

As you recall, i complained that the guy i bid on was bidding against himself.

Well, he sold it again (because he won it) and now he is selling it for $50 shipped. Totally owns

it's is a 1.25Ghz G4 w/ USB 2.0 and ATI Radeon GPU (think it's a 9200) and has a decent enough *Umph* to run leopard 😀

Sweet. Are you dropping this into a busted eMac or doing the ATX power hack?

Sweet! So you'll fix the eMac and get an upgrade in the process, very nice 🙂

Woah!! $50 for that? Sweet!!!

Man if I could find a deal like that, I'd -totally- do the ATX hack. Man, that would be epic.

going into my existing eMac. I killed the board on the machine so I needed a replacement. Now I have one 😀

Thank god it has the Radeon, from what I heard Leopard absolutely hates/will not work with a GeForce based eMac. Radeon though... doesn't get much better than that!

Not true. It worked great when I had it on on the eMac, it ran a GeForce2 MX

Wasn't your eMac a 700Mhz model? Because they can only take an nVidia-GPU based 700/800Mhz model 😛

yes it was, but I have seen the boards for both the 1.25 and the 700, they are pretty much the same as the layouts. I have other ram and whatnot. if it doesn't fit, i will make it fit 😉

According to iantm on AppleFritter.com, the board is a pretty much straight swap out. So it's not going to be a problem is looks like. fyi, I am pretty sure iantm was an appletech working on laptops (he constantly griped about how bad that laptops were :-/ , then again, it's justified after working on a few of them (2 iBooks, 4 PowerBook G4s and one MacBook Pro CoreDuo) )

So, looks like I am pretty good 😀

So Leopard does run on the nVidia eMacs... must be mixed results then, i've heard a few stories where Leopard doesn't seem to run well with them.

Well, I just got the board. Wow!!! Apple sure made a lot of changes :-/

Sadly, i am going to try to trade locally for the 700/800Mhz Board. If anyone wants to trade one for a 1.25Ghz board, let me know!!! I can pay shipping from me to you, if you want to pay from you to me 🙂

FYI, it only cost me $10 to ship from Ohio to Nebraska. So it's pretty cheap

So it wasn't a straight swap? Or is there another reason? :/

Posted by: coius on 2007-12-29 07:15:36
It's not only not a straight-swap, they even replace connectors on the board that allow it to mate with the rest of the CRT/Shell/Whatnot.

I put an ad up on the local craigslist hoping to trade. If worst comes to worst, I will try to sell the board on eBay 🙂

Well, i got done posting on craigslist, and a guy wants me to help him get two eMacs up and running. If my board works in his and I can get the second up and running, we can do a trade 🙂

Hopefully it works!!!
