| G3 Mini Tower / 6400-200 Mac II w/ IIfx mobo |
Posted by: RadioPatrol on 2007-12-13 22:45:19 I just received ( I love when stuff gets delivered and I don't have to go get it ) [}🙂] ]'> the machines mentioned in the subject.
The G3 mini tower; 266, 9gb HD [very noisy], 400+ Mb ram ( 256+128+64) 8 Mb Vram, and it is running 9.22 ( has wings w/ RCA inputs )
The 6400 is running 7.5.5, Ram Doubler {set to x3 } for 48 Mb, 4gb Hd
The Mac IIfx turns out to be striped :O of HD, Video Card, but does have some simm's and :
8-o
There is a ROM SIMM slot on the Mac IIfx which must be filled with a IIfx ROM. Without this ROM, the computer will not function.
seems the ROM card is missing as well ......... oh well so much for putting up a A/UX box ........ 🙁

Posted by: bluekatt on 2007-12-13 22:48:15 yeah but all the oldworld macs need their roms to work so its not that unusual
finding that IIfx rom will be more difficult then finding the computer it self
count your self lucky for the sims though the iifx is th eonly one to use 64 pin 80ns simms and they are a bitch to find

Posted by: Franklinstein on 2007-12-13 22:50:22 Sounds like somebody may have used your ROM for one of the SE/30 mod experiments... unless you're absolutely sure that the ROM SIMM is missing, you could try plugging it in and listening for the chime. No chime probably means no ROM. Good for parts, anyways.

Posted by: mac2geezer on 2007-12-14 09:17:53 I just pulled 8 1MB IIfx simms out of a totally dead IIfx and will test them today in my working IIfx. If they test ok then I'll have a set of 4 for sale if you're interested.

Posted by: RadioPatrol on 2007-12-14 13:54:03 well there is this empty white slot - looks like a ram slot - the mobo says ROM SIMM - sigh

Posted by: RadioPatrol on 2007-12-14 13:55:09 geezer - whats dead about your other IIfx ?
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2007-12-14 16:26:54 Check the batteries for a charge, dead batteries mean the unit will look dead.
|
Posted by: mac2geezer on 2007-12-14 17:21:21 No, the MB is dead because the battery holders are corroded off the MB. I've never seen a piece of electronic gear with as much corrosion as that IIfx has. I was mildly surprised that the simms worked. Someone with better soldering skills than mine MIGHT be able to resurrect the MB, but who knows what else might be wrong with it.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2007-12-14 17:45:39 Its probably junk then (died from battery acid leak).
Save the CPU and FPU before you junk it.
