Yamaha CDRW 8424 driver
Posted by: mac2geezer on 2007-12-13 17:29:10
I'm looking for a driver (System 9?) for a Yamaha CDRW 8424 external SCSI burner. Yamaha no longer has anything on their site and a Google search only finds Windows drivers. Anyone have any leads for such a driver?

The one that comes with Toast works great. If you can find a copy, install it on your machine and presto! Your drive will work just fine. I've got one of these Yamaha drives, too, and it'll only work properly either under OS X or with Toast installed on 8.5-9.2. Other CD authoring programs may work, and you may be able to find some non-Apple CD drivers, but Yamaha never released any drivers for Classic (at least not for their SCSI drives), according to the manual included with the drive.

Toast has a generic CDROM driver to read CDs, and it should have a built in driver to burn using that drive.

You might want to make sure you have the latest updates for Toast, since it might have a driver for that particular drive added.

Thanks for the info. There was a copy of Toast on the machine, so I moved two extensions into the extension folder, restarted, and Aha! the CD appeared on the desktop. Haven't tried burning yet but at least I can read CD's on that drive.

Thanks again for the help.
