Power supply for 140
Posted by: flashedbios2012 on 2015-01-19 07:21:15
So I listed my powerbook 140 for sale in the marketplace, and this weekend i thought id test it to make sure it still works. Dead. Got my Fluke 117 Multimeter, and zero volts on the adapter. I searched my house high and low for an acceptable replacement. 7.5 volts, 2 AMPS, Barrel Connector, Positive Center. In all my crap, no luck. eBay wants $60 for a new one, and thats just a rip off. No way am I going to pay $60 to power a $30 laptop. Any suggestions on finding a replacement that doesn't cost more than say, $10 to $15?

You just need to change the capacitors inside it, check out this video

If I recall correctly, the PowerBook 140 needs a 7.5V x 2A (a little bit more on the current side won't hurt anyway) power adapter.
Although it won't be particularly pretty, a common Sony PSOne power brick would perfectly do and they're probably fairly cheap these days.
If you want to keep the original power adapter and you're capable of doing a little bit of soldering, though, I'd follow Ferrix suggest and simply do a recap.

You can also get those universal ones with switches on the casing, even if the voltage output (when loaded) is higher, the PowerBook has some voltage regulation inside, the output voltage doesn't have to be exact

Can i ask something about the powerbooks? It has nothing to do with the power supply tough...

So i have a 140 and a 170, they both don't boot up,my 170 has the "tunnel vision" problem and my 140 has this really glitchy screen with all sorts of horizontal lines.

Someone knows how i can fix this?

I fixed the video issues on the PB140, I made a video about recapping a PB145 Display
