| Video Card for 6500 |

What video cards are available for a PowerMac 6500 ? I have a 22" monitor that can do 2048x1536, is this possible with this Mac ?

If you drop a Radeon 9200 Mac Edition PCI card in it you should JUST ABOUT get it ito run in OS 9.1. I think I remember using my B&Ws in 9.1 ok, but I don't know how well it's play with an old PCI machine. That card has 128MB VRAM on so it ought to be able to handle 2048x1536.

The problem there is going to be searching around for an older Radeon driver. ATi has only supported Mac OS 9.2.2 or OS X with drivers for a while now.

The 9.2.2 drivers probably work in 9.1 or you can use the custom installer application (which I handily forgot the name of!) to install 9.2.2 on a 6500. I did the latter on a Powerbook 3400c to use MSNM on it.

I don't know if it would support the resolution/software you want but you could use 7.6.1 and a 64MB Radeon 7000 as well because there are some drivers available for it.

Bert It has to either be a Mac Edition card or a PC card that has been flashed with a Mac ROM. Not all flashed cards are equal, though. You can have two identical cards and flash both of them and one works and the other doesn't. Not all cards can be flashed, either. The last time I checked there were no Mac ROM files for the X1300 or X1550 PCI cards. The best Radeon you can use in a PCI slot would be the 9200. nVidia FX 5x00 PCI cards are also known to work. nVidia 6200 PCI cards might also be possible.

The absolute cheapest option for that resolution would be the ATI Rage 128 from a B&W G3, next up a Voodoo 3 is you like games - you'll need to flash this over. Neither should cost more than $10 🙂

According to the specs the standard display adapter should be able to do 1280x1024 but I can't go higher then 1024x800,can I up the video ram or something ? And how do I find out how much video ram is installed ?
