| why the slow forum |
Posted by: coius on 2007-11-10 23:41:26 it has taken me like 15 minutes to load the page. Why on earth is the forum this slow? ~tl, why does this site either seem to give errors, take so long to load the pages, or take like up to 3 minutes just to do a reply?

Peace,

Posted by: coius on 2007-11-11 00:02:58 yeah, this is becoming unbearable. I like 68kmla, but when I can't log in. It's getting to be a PITA to post here

Posted by: stevep on 2007-11-11 08:53:11 I tried all day Saturday to connect, and it kept timing out. Wasn't until the evening I was able to connect and then it was extremely slow when trying to read posts - I finally gave up. Very frustrating for sure. Perhaps we all need to donate some $ to get a better host? I'd be willing for sure because I value this community.

Posted by: alk on 2007-11-11 09:02:12 $5 USD from 20 people should buy a year on most hosts. Hosting isn't expensive (I pay about $7/month for the PPCMLA). Excessive down time from any host is inexcusable. And whatever host Tom & Co. have picked for the 68kMLA should be ashamed of themselves - it would be one thing if the 68kMLA were run out of someone's basement, but for a professional web host to constantly have trouble sending pages (Safari loads pages from the 68kMLA about 70% of the time; that's a 30% failure rate!)...

Posted by: coius on 2007-11-11 10:10:28 with my forum, i run about $3.99 a month. Not bad, eh? And it's blazing fast!

Posted by: funkytoad on 2007-11-11 10:34:28 Yeah, it just always times out on me.
|
Posted by: MacMan on 2007-11-11 12:15:19 Alot of the time the forum pages time out on me or I get an error saying "Too many connections". It seemed to start happening shortly after the automatic login was enabled by default...

Posted by: LCGuy on 2007-11-11 22:34:43 Interesting, i haven't had any problems with it. I'll talk to ~tl about it next time he's on AIM.
|
Posted by: ~tl on 2007-11-12 11:02:28 I've had a talk with my host, and things should be a bit better now. He's been tweaking the Apache config to speed things up a little. The server we're on is getting upgraded at the end of the month as well, so that should improve things as well.
However, I'm going to keep an eye on it...

Drew I guess it depends on your definition of professional
Zernebok HostingI own and operate a small web host called Zernebok Hosting. The site was redesigned recently with the site you see today. look at the 68kmla.org whois info and you'll see that the nameservers are none other then:
NS1.ZERNEBOK.COM
NS2.ZERNEBOK.COM

Posted by: John Musbach on 2007-11-15 10:54:12 Oh right, and the forums are extremely slow right now 🙁
|
Posted by: The Macster on 2007-11-15 12:27:41 Speed seems OK here at the moment, it seems very variable depending on where you are, sometimes it's slow or inaccessible for me when other people can get on it fine but today it's not at all bad here but others are saying it's slow. Got "unable to connect" for a while just now though.

Posted by: macintoshman on 2007-11-15 18:31:22 It is very slow here. On all of my computers. It is time to get a new host. I get better speeds from FREE hosting.
Have to click twice on everything here. 😛

Posted by: Patrickool93 on 2007-11-15 18:37:19 Yeah, sometimes it's fast other times, it gets slower, but a couple minutes it was slow as molasses.

Posted by: aftermac on 2007-11-16 06:41:23 Took almost three minutes of loading to get to this topic. However, that's an improvement from last nights not loading at all. It is taking quite a bit of determination on my part just to post once or twice a week, when a month ago I was averaging 3 per day.
I don't want to be the person that complains about the hosting, but doesn't contribute when it comes time to pony up some cash. So, my question is: What monetary contribution does one need to make to resolve this issue?

Posted by: gobabushka on 2007-11-16 07:47:39 i get better speeds off of my own web server!

Posted by: Dan 7.1 on 2007-11-16 09:17:59 i think its just you guys. it took me a grand total of 2 seconds to load this topic 😛
