I would like to be able to create Pagemaker documents on a LC 475 (OS 7.x, 132 MB RAM, 8 GB HDD, Apple Portrait Display) and be able to read them on Pagemaker running on my G4 DA (OS 10.4.10 and OS 9.2.2, 733 MHz, 768 MB RAM). As well as the reverse, writing the document on the G4 and reading it on the LC 475. Which version(s) of Pagemaker should I buy to do this? I would prefer running Pagemaker in 10.4.10 on the G4 instead of 9.2.2 or "classic." If it is running in 10.4.10, I could easily "print" the finished document into a PDF for distribution.
Is it possible to have this cross compatibility?
Thanks,
David
| Posted by: tomlee59 on 2007-10-30 00:52:16 It's been too long since I used PageMaker (on the Plus!). But I can offer this tip: you can print to pdf (using a thing called, appropriately enough, print2pdf) without buying Acrobat. I've used it in system-7 macs, and it works amazingly well. This doesn't solve your larger problem, but it's a handy thing to have.

I'm not familiar with modern versions of PageMaker, but I know that interchange of documents between PM versions is not straightforward. Later versions may read a limited range of earlier version files, but may not be able to save to an older format.

I think I found the app you mean. It is shareware and called PrintToPDF. You can get it at http://www.jwwalker.com/pages/pdf.html. Great suggestion!

Thanks for the version information. This will help get me started on my search for what I need.
