My workroom smells like burning electronics
Posted by: aftermac on 2007-10-01 11:30:46
So, I hooked up one of my IIgs' a couple hours ago and started playing with it. I poked around the Startup Disk a bit, made a backup copy, then went immediately into Lode Runner, everything is working fine.

About ten minutes ago I hear a loud POP! Everything is still on... Lode is still running... I flip the power switch on the IIgs. Then smoke starts billowing from the top of the monitor... I hit the power switch, then pulled the plug. After a minute or so the smoke started dying down.

It's been a while since I've had something blow up on me... it pretty much sucks. Good thing I have two more IIgs monitors!

Probably just part of the HT electronics on the monitor going out in a ball of (very fast moving blue) flame. Might be repairable.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll have to tear it apart at some point, if for no other reason than to see what blew. Not sure what I want to do with it. For now it's sitting outside... it was really smelling up the house.
