Darwin OpenDarwin

Was looking at some screenshots over at www.mplayerhq.hu and stumbled upon this. Which got me to thinking...

Does anyone here run Darwin or OpenDarwin on a PowerMac that is NOT running Mac OS X? Looks like someone is running AfterStep in OpenDarwin in that screenshot.

I have run it on my iBook. It felt quite 'incomplete' in a way... like there was no easy way to add a user, as that functionality only exists in the GUI on OS X.

That could actually be Window Maker.

I believe you are correct.

I run both 7 and 8 on my G3 B+W, and 7 on a i386.

OpenDarwin has been abandoned.

I am eventually hoping to get this running on my Wallstreet, and run KDE or Enlightenment. People seem to complain a great deal about the sub system of Mac OS X. I don't seem to mind it too much. I need a way to figure out how to use wifi with it, as when I try to access it directly from 10.3's darwin, the wifi driver makes it freak out.

I tried running Darwin 8.0 on both a G3 iMac and a PC. Never again will I attempt it. I don't know if it was just my inexperience with the system (which I was learning as I go), but it just felt VERY incomplete to me without OS X. There were some cool features for mounting and unmounting drives using disktool and such, but beyond that I just didn't see the benefit over something like FreeBSD or GNU/Linux. Oh, and configuring everything through nicutil was an exercise in pain (since everything is stored in NetInfo).

Yes, my G3 B+W will quadruple boot into OS9, Darwin 7, Darwin 8 and Tiger all as separate installations.
