SE/30 PDS Adapter Epic Blunder
Posted by: JDW on 2020-03-21 03:54:54 In the picture the diimo has a pass though which looks useful for popping 2 cards in. thats the only problem with the se/30’s 1 slot configuration. Yes, and I plug a MacCon PDS Ethernet card into the PDS connector atop my DiiMO, which really makes the DiiMO shine in the SE/30 over the PDS version PowerCache. The socketed PowerCache of course eliminates that problem altogether, leaving your PDS slot free.

Not heard about the socketed powercache. Interesting i would be happy with 33mhz upgrade

Well, the goal for me is having ethernet, accelerator and another fullsize PDS card. Universal PowerCache + my combined ethernet/adapter gives you exactly that without the need to solder a socket to your logicboard or let alone find one of the socketed PowerCaches. The DiiMO also only lets you choose between ethernet or a video card if you’re not into cutting the end off one of those IIsi Radius Pivot cards to make it fit inside the SE/30.

I'm not sure there's much hope for my card... but I've not had the bravery to test it again recently. I assume it is dead. To cheer myself up I am recapping a very very dirty SE/30 logicboard today, hoping to bring it back to life with a good clean.

That said, reading this thread makes me very happy!! ;-) Great work!!!! Even tho it doesn't apply to me and.... So far I have tested it in the SE/30, IIci, LC, II and IIsi <thinks about the IIsi I am getting ready to order CAPs for...> ...um.... Well, if it applies to me or not, still great work and a great thread! I love reading about successful repairs and the finding and acquisition of those chips!!! Congrats...

I've just acquired one and it appears to be dead: I get jailbars and the chimes of death when I turn the SE/30 on, either with the Twinspark or the included SE/30 adapter. What is a bit odd is that it has a 16MHz oscillator but a 40MHz CPU, so I am not sure if there has been any funny business going on, but this thread has given me hope.

Plugged my Bolle clone Turbo040 into the PDS slot, rather than the cache slot, heard a rhythmic buzz, unplugged and noticed my Epic Blunder... this after frying my SE/30 logic board (longer story), and finally finding a replacement for it. I will, half-sarcastically, cry myself to sleep this week. It's a pity as well, I think my batch was Bolle's last batch of Turbo040s, since he was using his Daystar chips up.

Just a thought but, are you using Bolle's riser card? On mine, I think he disconnected the 12v as many cards don't need it. You have to actually add a link to enable it. This might not have saved things, or I might be misremembering, but there might be hope.

I think he is using one of my combo adapter cards, but not entirely sure if that specific one already had the 12V jumper at the back (and if I had it open or closed by default) @rplacd can you check if the solder jumper at the back of the card is present and if it is closed or open? Nevertheless it would be interesting to know if the T040 actually survived with the jumper open. I never dared to try that yet.

I'd rather not keep them lying around. adapter card is very likely to be fine. You can check if the ethernet part still works by running it in standalone mode. Do that by closing the "Carrera" jumper on the adapter. The only thing that dies is the ASIC on the Turbo040, CPU and all other parts are going to be fine.
Posted by: Bolle on 2023-06-22 00:57:46 That's the additional jumper on all the newer variants of the combo adapter. It disconnects the 12V line from the passthrough PDS which should theoretically keep IIci cache slot cards intact when they're accidentally installed in the PDS passthrough.
