The listing clearly stated "untested" and it said no returns, so no. Even if the seller did know, there's no argument that I was buying something that was supposed to be in good condition or working.
It's not the worst I've ever seen... the RTC and CPU seem to have survived. Might even be bodgeable.
View attachment 98491 Looks like the BBU survived too, that's hard to replace.
I'd be nervous about that RTC. |

The chassis will be a good experiment case for rust conversion products. Recommendations for things to try welcome.

The chassis will be a good experiment case for rust conversion products. Recommendations for things to try welcome. I tend to use a wire brush in an angle grinder and then zinc primer, or a straight to rust single coat like hammerite...
But rust conversion stuff is interesting - I have some somewhere, but misplaced it in a move.

Posted by: finkmac on 2026-05-05 08:19:11 rust converters are decent, but will leave the item blackened
i've used Evaporust on battery damaged SE/30 metals.
the thing is, it will strip the top layer off the metal. you need to spray it with a clear coat or zinc primer to prevent it from oxidizing. |

View attachment 98491 I’m gonna give that a 80% chance of being repairable. It’s probably just more fiddly than actually problematic. Of course the question is would it just be easier to find a replacement board? |
