New Project: DoubleVision SE/30 Card

As I said, please don't take my occasional comments as offensive as they may sound to you. These are just rantings from a Mac noob comining from an entirely different community, who is taking this as an opportunity to learn something new. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I really do believe that my 2 projects I'm doing here now, would make nice additions.

What you can be sure about is that, for all my projects, I try to set high standards for myself. When I make a graphics card for the Mac, I want it to work as perfectly as possible as its Amiga sister, and to try adding additional features given the special properties of the host system - here, MacSE/30 variant adds mirroring of internal video output to the HDMI.

Right now, I am finishing the blitter of my design on the Amiga, so that the Mac card can use the same, well tested and performant design. And for all the features I might be adding to one variant, I will keep the other product also up to date.

Once my SE/30 is running, I expect I can have a running prototype in 2-3 weeks.

I love hearing about your progress and seeing your product photos. It brings life to a platform that's still cherished in our community, even while it's been written off by the larger world.

Well, you stopped writing "MAC", so I guess we'll forgive you. ;-)

Given I have to write "Processor" on my phone because my autocorrect won't let me write CPU most of the time, I don't think I'm in a position to criticise ๐Ÿ˜†

Ouch!

Well, I do call it โ€œautocorruptโ€ for a reason.

How wonderfully obtuse!

On my 2013 rMBP running Sequoia via OCLP, my autocorrect doesn't actually work at all in places like Mail and Messages, so I'm probably better off.

And to that end, I actually turn it off altogether on my other machines, so I can spell things however I like and it won't try to "autocorrupt" anything without my say so!

Hi @Oliver_A

I also come from the Amiga corner, but I also have found interest in classic Macs. The Double Vision seems to be a very interesting project. I have recently ordered a transparent Mac SE 30 and I'm basically interested in your graphics card.

Well, can you answer me only a few simple questions, please?

1.) Can I use the Double Vision with an internal 8,4" color LCD/TFT display for replacing the original internal monochrome tube to enable colors on a Mac SE 30? More or less in a similar way like ZZJ's Color Kit does?

2.) Can the Double Vision be used in combination with the Prodigy 040/060 Card or Bolle's Carrera040 Clone in a Mac SE 30?
... Ah, I already read that the Prodigy requires a 040 socket. Maybe it works on a Bolle card, but it does not seem to be explicitly for an SE 30 ๐Ÿฅฒ

3.) Can you already say, when the Double Vision will be probably available? And how much is it expected to cost?

I'm excited to see what becomes of this! I am lucky enough to own what I think is one of the best video cards for the SE/30- and Interware Grand Vimage 24-16s. I like it because it is one of the few video cards that has acceleration that works with the SE/30, and while the acceleration seems modest, it does make a difference when playing vintage games.

I will be curious to see how well your card can handle acceleration!

I myself would also love to learn more about how to write drivers for vintage Macs. About the only programming language I currently have any fluency in is Basic!
