Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-12 16:46:39 It's here! It's mine! I still can't believe it! All it needs is a hard drive, though I'm not quite sure how it mounts inside the case, there must be a cage I'm missing. Also the seller mentioned something about needing a terminator, is that true? I thought most Macs of this time had motherboard termination for stuff on the internal SCSI chain.
Also, I had a hunch this was a late-production 950 and it turns out I was right. Explains the tray-load CD-ROM when earlier models either didn't have a CD at all or had a caddy one. May 1995 was only a few months before they discontinued the 950.

Posted by: Carboy7 on 2017-01-12 16:57:00 Congrats! Bit yellowed, but can't complain! 🙂
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-12 16:58:42 It could be yellow like radioactive piss and it wouldn't bother me at all! 😛

Posted by: belgaonkar on 2017-01-13 09:18:54 and you have both keys! 😉

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-13 09:37:34 There's something weird about this 950 though...there's some minor corrosion on the inside of the case and on the big central drive frame, but the board is fine and there's no evidence of an exploded battery, plus the guy sent me pictures showing it working. How odd.
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-13 11:11:01 I took some more pictures...
There's one of the corroded area (which looks a bit grainy due to low light). I got the thing up and running with my 7.6.1 CD and I was stunned to see there's only 40MB of RAM in there! It has all 16 slots filled! I figured it would have at least 64MB, but I guess not. And as you can see there's no hard drive cage, which basically forces me to use a SCSI2SD if I want to have a hard drive in this thing any time soon.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-20 14:44:15 My PowerBook G4 arrived today, what a peach! It's a little dirty in some spots and the release button for the screen doesn't QUITE work but it runs great and the battery even has 3 hours of charge! I'm charging the other two batteries to see if they've got left. Weirdly, Apple must have done a revision with the batteries as the newer one has that little metal lug on it and is specifically marked for a 12 inch model...
I put TenFourFox on there and it runs it fine, especially with uBlock Origin (a very good adblocker) and NoScript added. Tempted to try QuickTime Exporter for videos...

Posted by: Carboy7 on 2017-01-20 20:11:22 What a tiny laptop, at least in my standards... 😛
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-20 20:20:50 I kinda like it though. It has a good feel to it and it's super portable!

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-14 14:28:32 TOWERS...
OF...
POWER!!!!!!!!!!
and an iMac.

Posted by: Carboy7 on 2017-02-14 15:10:49 😀
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-14 16:25:49 Of course, two of them don't have hard disks right now so their power is somewhat limited. 😛

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-02-14 19:57:48 Guess you need a HD bracket for the 950 (same as the one the CDROM is using).
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-02-14 20:00:17 The tray loading 950 CDROM and bezel are probably from the 9150.
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-14 20:00:39 I was planning on going SCSI2SD but if you have a spare bracket from a parts machine I certainly would be open to considering it.
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-02-14 21:51:10 I have 2 brackets but they are going to be used soon (I have 5 950's).
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-15 08:54:33 Alright, I'll just use foam tape then.
Also, this is an April 1995 produced 950 so maybe Apple was standardizing 950 and 9150 production at that time by using the same CD drives.
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-02-15 10:49:18 Could be, I would have to see an Apple picture showing the more modern bezel. The 840av units started out with tray loaders as well, but many people replaced those drives and bezels with the later ones used on the 8100 line (same as the 8500).
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-15 13:07:26 I'm glad it's not a caddy loader as then I'd have to buy a caddy.
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-02-15 14:29:16 Caddys are not hard to find or too expensive, but working caddy loading SCSI drives are getting scarce.
