R7000 beige G3 issues

I apologize. I moved this to a thread in the hacks and development section... and I still also have a problem with my flashed 7000 in a beige G3 MT - and i'd love to have a look at the extensions that ArbysTPossum mentioned. I have a 350MHz Yikes G4 in my machine.

Are you still having the freeze before the desktop loads? If so, did you try the XLR8 MAChSpeed Control extension, which solved it for me?

The artifacts don't occur under Mac OS 9.1 or below. I also tried 9.0.4 and 8.6 with the same XLR8/ATI extensions.

perfect excuse to run 8.6 😛

I very much like 8.6... 9.1 and especially 9.2 feel like updates just to facilitate the move to OS X, whilst breaking compatibility with older software (After Dark, anyone?).

But I'll see how 9.1 goes on this machine.

I will take out of storage the G3 MT and see, however I was not successful in using 8.6 with USB, Firewire or other “modern” PCI upgrades, even when trying out 9.x extensions. Also, I think I used an Italian OS which in hindsight may have been in conflict with some extensions too. I will have to reinstall everything in EN…. anybody here has a good image for 9.1 or 9.2 in English for the Beige G3?

I have a beefed-up G3 MT with a Sonnet Encore 1Ghz and a Radeon 7000 - in this case it is the original one and it works flawlessly under 9.2.2 with latest Radeon Drivers (Mac Radeon 9000-100). The OS is running in german, the drivers were US. But no conflicts so far. MacBench 5 showed a nice boost in graphics performance of the R7000 compared to the Rage 128 and Rage Pro. Interestingly, the Rage Pro was a tad faster than the Rage 128 in one of the tests...
