| Making a VNC server for A/UX |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 16:00:44 I will, I just had to swap everything back from the 475.. And the memory test with 68MB takes some time 😅 |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-23 16:03:47 It does, doesn't it! I just upgraded the RA/UXmount 650 to 68MB earlier, and it's ... noticeably slower to boot now. Which is mildly annoying... |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 16:10:11 My Quadra 700 was already maxed out when I bought it as a kid in the late 2000's at the Basel flea market (for CHF 10!). When I first booted it, I was a bit worried because the screen stayed black for so long...! |

ok it's working with 640x480 in 1bit
Nope, everything crashed... |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-23 16:26:17 can you try 640x480 8 bit? |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 16:26:56 As soon as fsck is over, yes 🙂 |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-23 16:28:19 Oh dear...
Thanks! |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 16:35:45 It worked well until I pressed the mouse button (crashed again) |

urgh :-(. This is 3.1(.1) again? |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 16:38:54 Yes. It's based on "AUX_3_1_1GB_Use_In_Shoebill.zip" from Macintoshgarden and running on a RaSCSI. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-23 16:41:19 Great, thanks. That sounds like I'm going to have to do some proper debugging. That'll be a post-Christmas thing, then... |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2022-12-23 17:11:55 Did some more testing: Everything <= 8bit works in 640x480, even depth switching. Changing to 24bit causes the vncd to crash. Using the remote keyboard works. Pressing the remote mouse button causes the full Unix to crash. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-23 17:31:00 That's really useful information, thankyou. 🙂 I'm bewildered by the remote mouse button crash. The rest makes sense. |

Pressing the remote mouse button causes the full Unix to crash.
I've tried reproducing this in QEMU with the image from the Garden you mentioned above and can't replicate the crash, so it's either something 700-specific or something in your installation. Is it possible for you to send me the precise image you're using? (When you have time, of course). |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-12-24 17:25:17 I think I found this bug: I had mistyped a kernel variable, leading to a crash that was link-order dependent (!!).
Here's a revised version of the kernel module. |
Posted by: bamdad on 2025-03-28 10:20:38 hi there, just a heads-up: i've opened two issues on the github for some bugs i've encountered. no pressure, as this is a passion project, i'm not expecting you to do anything, hell, since 2022 you might be somewhere totally different in your life.
but in case you're still seeing this but not checking the github, i thought i'd let you know. if you need me to beta-test anything, i'm here. |

Hi! I completely missed these, sorry. I'm not very good at issue tracking. In life in general, to be honest, let alone with github. Let me have a look. |
