| Replacement Power Supply in Quadra 605 |

Just wondering isn't it easier and cheaper to recap the original board in these? I've just done three and all worked perfectly after replacing the caps My first course of action is to recap, but in this case the PSU was dead - and replacing its guts was the path of least resistance. |

Posted by: killvore on 2026-01-03 23:53:12 I figure there's other components in those PSUs that aren't simple caps and which also degrade over the decades, nice to have an option to just "reset" the whole shebang. Plus they aren't THAT expensive - usually less than $20, and wiring them up is pretty straightforward (not like an ATX conversion or anything like that). So I'm letting mine run until they die and then doing the Meanwell swap.
I'm testing an RPT-160B as a drop-in replacement for a Power Macintosh 6100, but that is definitely not cheaper than doing a recap 😄 |
