PowerBook 540c hinge restoration: SUCCESS!!!

Cheers, fuzzylogic, for the inspiration.
I’ve uploaded mine to https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6280031
I’m quite happy with the result, though it may not be perfect 🙂
Now I just wish I had some darker-grey. I’ll try black, might look better.

Nice! I think I am going to print a set out for Powerbook tonight.

thanks @fuzzylogic @alexGS this has been an excellent thread-revival.

Nice! I think I am going to print a set out for Powerbook tonight.

Thanks - I meant to make one improvement today - I’ve realised (by looking at a removed top case) that the pointy end should have a fairly long tag on it to engage with the case (as your design does). All mine were broken off, so I put on a clip the same as the other two clips.

The two side clips are fine but the end clip isn’t quite correct - it doesn’t hold the cover as tightly as it should. It’s OK when assembled, as the screen housing won’t let it move far, and it’s easier to get in and out, but I’ll be adding the correct version soon (eight hours from now).

AEChadwick - sorry for this small mistake but I’m glad you’ve pieced your ultimate-Blackbird together - looks great 🙂

I’ve made the improvement I wanted to - the fit is tighter now and clips in well (even with the display in place). I’ve updated the Thingiverse page.

Thanks. @jmacz your version of the display access cover looks really good. I had a ton of trouble trying to replicate the three dimensional dimple shape depression in front of the microphone. I couldn't get the bell curve shape right. Maybe someone can remix it and fix the shape.
I don't have the software to remix but I think I've found a quick kludge for this - the 'Negative Part' modifier in Orcaslicer. Intersecting a 40mm sphere with your design at a carefully-chosen position produces a result that I like, though I worry the resolution of the sphere may be a little low. Of course, a higher-resolution sphere imported from another program may fix that 🙂 I really like the fit of your part, the clips are excellent and the fingers along the top are in exactly the right places.
