| Mac Hut is back |
Posted by: joshc on 2021-01-12 21:13:44 An update has been overdue for some time, so here it is.
The homepage is a bit slimmer now (less text on homepage) and I've created an About page.
All of the system software images have been updated, these are now StuffIt archives compressed with BinHex 4.0.
I also added System 1.1, 2.0, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3.
It was hard to find non-corrupted 4.1 images - the copies on Mac Garden and other sites have a couple of corrupt disk images.
Also added 7.1.2, the first Power Macintosh compatible release.
More updates to come soon.

This is quite nice! Thank you for doing this.
Thank you. There are more updates to come, hopefully a lot quicker than 7 months this time...(currently working on adding some bootable disk images of various different system versions).
Please let me know if you want me to add anything specific.

Posted by: joshc on 2021-01-16 06:58:53 Another update...
Firstly, I'll post the link to the site again. The older links in this topic (yes, 11 years ago...) are out of date, you can find Mac Hut at https://machut.net or http://machut.net.
Secondly, I have added bootable hard disk and floppy disk images to the site. Just a small selection to start with.
Two of them were created by me, primarily for the purposes of hard disk formatting/recovery:
Mac Hut System 6.0.8 Recovery Toolkit
This is a 32MB image, ideal for the HD20 emulation mode on a FloppyEmu and contains lots of utilities and disk tools. I am open to ideas of how this can be improved. I am considering making a smaller version, perhaps 8MB?

Mac Hut System 6.0.8 Recovery Floppy - 1.44MB
This contains a cut-down System 6.0.8 file and some really useful utilities which, in most cases, should enable you to boot from this, and do all the disk formatting you need (HD SC Setup patched and Lido on here), in addition to removing viruses from a drive with Disinfectant and repairing drives with Disk First Aid.
I am considering making a 800K version of this too, it was a squeze to get everything in 1.44MB though (I had to modify Lido to make it smaller, for example).

See the 'Bootable Floppy Disk Images' section on the Mac Hut homepage for the other disk images I've uploaded, which include bootable disks for System 6.0.8, 7.0.1, 7.5 and Mac OS 8.0.
Any feedback/comments/questions please let me know. Thanks for reading.

It's back...again. 🥂After another brief hiatus (sorry about that), the site is back online again. It shouldn't go down again for any good reason.
Visit Mac Hut Archives for Mac abandonware, Apple manuals, Apple ads, old Mac website mirrors, and more.

SE/30 Forever 📃
My other site, SE/30 Forever, is also now back online, now as part of Mac Hut:
This aims to be the most exhaustive collection of resources for the Apple Macintosh SE/30 computer on the World Wide Web.

Patreon ☕
I have set up a Patreon page to help support my efforts. Unfortunately hosting is not free, and more than anything, keeping all this going takes time. Anything people can do to provide support is massively appreciated. And if anyone has any other ideas of how I could help them support me, let me know, as I realise not everybody may wish to commit to becoming a patron.
Patreon is empowering a new generation of creators. Support and engage with artists and creators as they live out their passions!
www.patreon.com
What's next? 👨💻
- Mirrors of some forgotten sites like System 6 Heaven and ResExcellence
- Expanding the SE/30 Forever site with more content/resources
- Improving our software archive, particularly to include a more complete archive of System 6 software
- Re-instating the Print ads archive. This was previously WordPress-driven but the new version will not be. We are still working out the best way to create image galleries without a heavy back-end.
Goals 🥅
- Preservation of Macintosh software, with a focus on quality rather than quantity
- Archiving resources not available elsewhere. This includes print ads, manuals, and other information relating to legacy Apple Macs.
- Expansion of the SE/30 Forever micro-site to include more resources, guides and information about the Mac SE/30 that can't be found elsewhere.
- Archiving and mirroring other sites to preserve them for future generations.
Donations will be used to cover the hosting costs and the time dedicated to expanding the site's content.
Bugs / Issues 🐛
If anyone finds anything broken, or wishes to provide any other feedback, please do so by replying to this thread, or DM me.
Once again, thanks everybody for their support. It is really appreciated. 🙂 |

Posted by: ClassicGuyPhilly on 2023-08-14 13:49:38 Hey Josh - very cool stuff! Can you do a disable SSL if using a Classic browser so we could download directly from old machines? |

Posted by: joshc on 2023-08-15 21:29:33
If only we could get a CubeOwner mirror... I've had a look and the best snapshot in the Wayback Machine for that one is from the end of 2004, and it looks like a lot of pages, particularly various forum threads/pages, are missing. I'm likely to run into a few issues tidying it to work fully independently of archive.org's snapshot. The Zone6400 mirror took longer than I thought (maybe about 4/5 hours) to tidy up and that's a much smaller site made entirely of static files vs. CubeOwner which was mainly a forum. Even Wayback's best snapshot doesn't appear to be complete, and after 2004 their snapshots get even worse, just hit with lots of 3xx redirects for some reason.
You can see what I found here, have a look and see what you reckon in terms of saving what's there:
For some reason the knowledge base seems to have been archived for longer, until 2016 but the later snapshots are very incomplete so I think an earlier, more complete looking snapshot would be a better starting point.
I am unsure I can commit to making a usable archive of that site without either: a lot of help from others, or at least a larger base of paid supporters to make up for some of the time this would take. That's why I am trying to tackle smaller / more managable sites first, as I don't mind putting smaller stuff back into the wild first to gain interest in my archive, so perhaps I'll be able to tackle CubeOwner.com at a later time. |
Posted by: joshc on 2023-08-15 22:37:29 One of my old personal favourites, System 6 Heaven, is now back from the dead:
Unfortunately the site is of limited use until I fix all the broken download links, many of which were on other sites and will require some hunting to find. I'll have to tackle these over the next few days/weeks - hopefully every lost/missing file can be found. |
Posted by: François on 2023-08-16 05:56:07 Another site, still online, that I think really needs to be mirrored (just in case!):
themacelite.wikidot.com
|
Posted by: joshc on 2023-08-16 06:09:07 Added a mirror of radius.vintagebox.de:
Credit really goes to @Phipli for the above, without his local copy of that site I wouldn't have been able to do this one. The Wayback machine didn't have the software files, only the html pages.

themacelite.wikidot.com
Looks doable, I'll add it to my list. Thanks |
