All I need to do with it is pull the one 256MB RAM stick and replace it with a 512MB one and it's perfect! I'm glad the keyboard was there too.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2016-12-24 14:58:51 Finally had some time to take a look at my 6100, which arrived yesterday...it's in fairly good shape, though one of the big tabs that holds the case on is broken off and it wasn't in the seller photos and I'm in the process of gluing the hard drive carrier back together. It's a pretty early one, dated March 1994. I look forward to sorting this thing out and solving the video out problem, whether through one of those adapter cables or buying 360Alaska's 266MHz Sonnet accelerator and a HPV card.

Posted by: techknight on 2016-12-25 13:37:51 Well the LC580 is a unique machine as in its wired like a 5XXX/6XXX power PC, and the 630, etc..  the 575 and under are like the CC. Keep that in mind.  But I had a feeling the 580 wouldnt make it. a 5XX machine never does, the plastic is way too brittle. Same thing happening with the 5XXX series as well.  In order for a 5XX to survive, you almost need a box 3 to 5 times the size, and packaged properly. Even then the shipping would be cost prohibitive at that point.  Sad truth 🙁

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2016-12-25 14:02:47 Yeah, I'm considering going back to the store that had that LC 520, as a 520 would at least fill that slot in my collection. My 6100 is starting to concern me, it doesn't chime. It turns on, the hard drive spins up, but no chime.

I have LC and Performa saved searches on eBay so I'm always watching for these machines, and I always recognize the ones that have been up there for months at $200 plus shipping.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2016-12-30 12:17:04 Well...turns out my 6100 was bad after all. 🙁 Even with a new clock battery it produces no video, and the hard drive didn't even seen to spin up. I just tore it down for parts, it wasn't a great 6100 anyway...

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-01 18:39:51 I got this old Western Digital FW400 external drive on Friday for $3.50, but of course it didn't come with any cables so I can't test it. I've never seen a power connector like that before, looks like a ADB/S-Video connector. I wonder what capacity it is, and if the drive inside is even any good...

Posted by: Cory5412 on 2017-01-01 22:40:54 I'm guessing 20 or 200 gigs. If the drive's not good, you should be able to put another IDE disk in it. The power adapter is an annoying type but common-ish. It's probably around somewhere, like in the thrift store, but it probably wouldn't say western digital on it.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-01 22:55:42 I looked it up and apparently it's 200GB. Nice! There wasn't any cables laying around with it, so I'll have to Google around for a replacement. The FireWire cable will be easy to get though.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-01-10 20:33:08 The Performa 6116CD I picked up to replace my 6100/60 works great! It even has a bigger hard drive than the one the 6100 had, and some cool software on said hard drive to boot.
