Don't have another card to try πŸ™‚ but will definitely look at the connector pins again.

Connector pins are fine (and this card works if I remove the additional memory chips -- well it did last time).

I probably shouldn't... but cannot ... resist... (takes out another 16MB module from his working 5300c)

Why not try adding one extra bank first, for 24MB, and see if it works? Then you could see if the problem is one bank or the other.

Success!!! and wow, I just feel stupid right now. It was actually all good the first time I tried to do this, and it was good earlier today on my second attempt.

The issue was I have a Global Village modem card in there and after installing the memory card (since it now has chips on the side facing the modem card), it was shorting against the modem card... Argh!

These chips are the same thickness as the stock ones on the other side, I guess there isn't much room. I put a piece of mylar between the modem card and the memory card, and it works now.

Yeah, totally! Also overclocked it to 40MHz again. πŸ‘

Well done!

How could you tell it was shorting out? I am surprised because I don’t think the clearance is that minimal that metal components should actually touch. I’ve taken the modem cards out of my machines though as I just find them annoying - it makes it harder to remove the CPU card, for example.

I figured if the memory card was bad, I would get the bad chime, but I was not even getting the boot bong. Then I placed my ear closer to the unit and I heard a slight buzz. I thought perhaps it might be a short so I took out the card and realized the modem card is right there.

So glad it's working now. πŸ™‚

Next stop, I need to look at my LCD .. it has some bright bleeding on the edges. Thought it might be the back light shining through but it's not.
