I'm a big idea guy, I leave the implementation to the much smarter tech folks like yourself 😉

Well, that's a mistake, in multiple ways.

But doubtless hilarity shall ensue 🤣

Can't we use AppleTalk over IR for wireless comms with lasers?
Well, NASA recently used lasers to transmit a video over about 19 million miles, and the latency was only a bit under 2 minutes, so it should be possible, and latency for a few thousand miles should be relatively trivial.

IR requires a direct line-of-sight, though, so one would need many relays to make it across the Atlantic.

However, don't fiber optic cables operate on this principle already?

Less so if you use a tall pole, and relay station is just a fancy word for "mirror" 🙂

So basically we have a transatlantic version of The Hummingbird Project with @Phipli floating in the center of the ocean with a Q3A server 🤣

People on the Macintosh Garden either have or had gaming servers set up.

For example: Diablo: https://macintoshgarden.org/forum/fogwraith-and-me-looking-diablo-players
instructions are here: https://macintoshgarden.org/forum/battlenet-classic

i haven't tried it myself and I have to see if anyone is about.
Anyone one for Diablo II on the Macintosh Garden battle.net site?
I have already registered on my Mac Mini G4.

Also, there used to be a new Bolo tracker server up, but not enough people played. 🙁

Your wording makes it sound as if the server is no longer around. The Bolo tracker (and NAT traversal proxy) is up and running as always. (If it's not working for some reason, please message me, because I want to know about that.) People can play any time they want. I'm never going to shut it down just due to lack of players. http://bolo.astrospark.com
