I love these boards... a work of art.

There's a great animation from back in the day that was done on the IIfx. Great music too!

Those batteries look totally fine.. stick them back in the machine!

I'm curious what charge they still hold, measure 'em with the multimeter. Probably nothing but it would be funny if they still worked.

Got that spare IIfx working. Required all the caps changing, lots of board cleaning, and two traces needed bodge wires (one in the startup circuit, one in the NuBus circuit). Even the original Quantum drive and Astec PSU work OK.

Now I'm tackling my spare-spare IIfx board which came to me recapped but doesn't work, I am guessing a problem in the startup circuit.

Excellent news 🙂

Made the spare IIfx as 'exotic' as I can by filling it with spare NuBus cards... (not quite as exotic as my main IIfx, but still pretty decent).

- Radius PrecisionColor 8
- Apple High Resolution Display Video Card
- Mac286
- Digidesign AudioMedia II
- Asante Ethernet MCNB

I have similar photos from when I moved house, I decided "in a computer" was the best way to move my cards. I had a 9600 with about 6 video outputs on the back 🙂

I need the HDD tray adapter. My IIfx doesn't have one, so it'll only work with the 5.25" drive.

Double-sided foam tape is your best friend here 😛

Picked up a spare 1400c... or what I thought was a 1400c but it arrived and it's actually a ... 1400cs. Looking again at the eBay listing, the title said 1400c but the photos were clearly of a 1400cs so I'm an idiot. Oh well. Was hoping to have a backup/spare active screen but this will have to do for now, I guess it could be a project to turn it into a 1400c as I have a spare 1400c logicboard that could be used for it, I would just need to find a compatible active panel for it. Another bonus is it has a CD-ROM drive whereas my 1400c doesn't, haven't tested it yet.

It also came with a very sad looking yoyo charger covered in tape and the charger doesn't work - seems to be some problem with its cable. These don't look very repairable but I'd be curious to know if anyone has successfully opened one up.

I made my own with some sheet metal and an angle grinder, designed to take two 3.5" disks

I have a c and a cs 5300, and to be fair, the passive screen is in better condition. The benefits may have... faded with time too a degree 🙁

The screen actually isn't too bad, but everything else about this is a bit disapointing... it's the 117MHz model, and the drive is awfully slow too. The trackpad button seems to be hit and miss, not as clicky as my 1400c.

Josh, if you need spare parts, like a trackpad assembly, send me a message. I’ve stocked up on a few spare 1400s because I like the model.

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to leave this machine mostly as is (except for doing the usual maintenance), and I'll keep on the lookout for another 1400c.
