Pin slot on G3 Whisper Perch?

As long as it doesn't put you off the hobby 😆

Might be a good way to learn KiCAD.
How is it 7.24GB in size?!

It's all the pictures of cheesecake they've hidden in the settings files 😉

Is there a pin diagram for the Perch slot available online?

Is it wrong that I am loving drawing up the schematic?

Hey, I just spent the time since dinner measuring the dimensions of every cap in a PSU. I'm not going to criticise. Last week I sat mapping out some of the Q610 logic board (need to do more on that) for a silly project.

And I owe you some pics... will try to get over to you in the next few days.

I'm not allowing myself to get any new Macs, as the several that I have each have so many secrets and surprises that keep me busy. Each one is a journey. I want to have the honour of being the first person outside of Apple Dev to get built-in USB working on a beige Mac.

Okay, I would still get a IIci. It's the one exception.
I've been mostly working through my backlog this year, but I did buy a 400MHz iMac logic board this evening. It looks like it could lead to a fun project and was £10.

I have a 7100, a beige G3 with dodgy video and a LW600 to sort, some power supplies, then I might do the PB145.

The Whisper card doesn't have the video capture functionality of the Wings card.
Ahh... mine might all be Whispers then... need to check - but think they are all mic & headphone only.

Some might have the USB footprint anyway...

The other 4 are still in the Macs (2 x desktop + 2 x MiniTower)

FYI :
No bracket, but good for experimenting?

Shh! I might have a snipe set up on that ;-)

You can tell at a glance which have the USB footprint, as the audio jacks are shifted over (further away from the modem slot).

Is their any speculation on why they didn't include USB to start with?

I think, it's impossible to say. My guess is that it was a marketing decision. Maybe Apple (or even Steve) made a last minute call to have USB be exclusive to the 'New World'/translucent plastics image. What do you think?

It might have been included on the boards purely for prototyping and development work. If you need a feature for dev work, why not slip it into your current order for 100000 boards if it doesn't impact the cost?

This makes a lot of sense actually.

The Beige G3 has a few other prototyping quirks, like the cache slot and PC floppy footprints.

Are there any other notable examples of this sort of thing on Old World Macintoshes?
