Posted by: desertrout on 2020-08-17 21:54:39 You can sand that screw hole down, use some JB Weld "SteelStik" (an epoxy putty that dries white-ish gray, or use something similar) smash the putty into the hole, and then make a flat & textured surface on the front by pressing the battery cover into it, or a foam sponge. I have a CD Drive front that I want to repair (it broke during shipping), and was wondering how suitable the dried colour would be. I'll give it a shot!

Here’s a bad pic of a hard to reach spot... but here is a color comparison of how the white/gray putty looks dried compared to the yellowed front of an internal zip drive.

I may try it this too, but cosmetic is not my strong suite. Lift a pad, break a trace, no problem. This is right on the front sticking out like a wart. I did try to "push" it back in, but it's very hard, would need a clamp to put enough pressure to push it back in I think (which may break something else 🙂 If someone did have an example of a cosmetic fix in a visible area like this I'd love to learn more though.
