A dramatic improvement in 17.0 from 10.0.11 in Sunspider on the G4 Powerbook.....1761 vs 2094, ie,8.4%. Not so dramatic on the G5...795 vs 818 (G5 Quad).

Very nice work!

Failed to transfer to gcc 4.6.3 -- one of the libraries it builds doesn't seem to work right with Tiger dyld. Can you succeed where I have failed? http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/issues/detail?id=52

ten four fox saves the day!

my mom's spa has switched to new appointment booking software. Previously we had a mac based server/client system, unfortunately new features were slow in coming and online booking/gift certificates were poorly set up and glitchy(among other issues). The new one is web based and works great...

However, after we get it up and running she finds, oops, requires firefox. Fine for the front desk computer and for her office computer. Not great for the appointment desk computer of employee computer(so employees can check their schedules and clock in/clock out) those are G5 and G4 imacs, no firefox(3.6 is incompatible). :O So I tried ten four fox, it works with the site! YAY!

Didn't know where else to put this.

I saw this thread last week, didn't have a clue was TenFourFox was until I had a quick read. Downloaded the G3 version for my Pismo and was just blown away with the browser. Then during the week upgraded my Pismo to a G4 550mhz, so swapped to the version matching my CPU and wow..Just WOW! Thank you so much for developing this. You made my Pismo actually SURF the internet and not chug along in a way that is almost painful to watch.

It just goes to show what I always suspected, if something is coded right. You dont need a quad core, 5gig, rocket powered system to visit Facebook..Regardless of what Apple might tell you. A G4 550Mhz or even a G3 400mhz can still do the job very reasonably ;D

haemogoblin: Indeed. I believe that's why forums like this exist.

They exist for people who don't want to put up with forced obsolescence (I think?), among many other things.

Thank you! 🙂

But I think the biggest thing is that Mozilla recognizes their performance chugs on low-spec devices. Now that they're focusing heavily on mobile, these efficiency improvements are getting into the core browser as well. 19 is already a lot faster than 17, and we're busily whacking bugs out of 20. By the time 24ESR comes out, I bet it'll be sleeker still.

I remember trying Minimo and Fennec. They were made because of the 32MB limit on Windows Mobile.

All i can say is thanks, it's great to be able to use my Pismo for more then word processing. Will be featuring the TenFourFox browser on my blog 🙂

I just tested the Zotero Firefox plugin in TenFourFox after the latest (17.0.5) update on a G5 dual 2.3, and was delighted to see a huge improvement in sync speeds (as promised, i.e., all that stuff about online storage services in the readme). I am shortly off to install the update on a 12" G4 PowerBook in order to see how it behaves under the new regime. Well done!

Very happy now with TFF on my Powerbook G4. Makes it actually practical to use for browsing!

Am I the only one that would love to use a PPC SeaMonkey 2.1 or later?
