Suddenly I remembered LEM.info... Intersting... I must say. I have never seen that before. It was posted quite recently:

Um, to be honest, I don't know! How could I tell? If we don't then I'm sure they can be enabled. [😱)] ]'> I have no idea; I've never been admin for a wiki before. From what I've read at the Traxus Project, I'm pretty sure it's an add-in module for Mediawiki. Evidently MW is extensible that way. IMO, includeonly/noinclude blocks and ParserFunctions are the two most valuable add-ons we use, to start with. Creating useful (i.e. anything beyond simple boilerplate text) templates is hobbled without them. ParserFunctions is installed [🙂] ]'>

In case my description was a little vague, I'm imagining a page much like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_operating_systems.
IE: model name column down the left, then columns for CPU, Bus speed, slot type, RAM type/min/max etc.
And not to take over the purpose of every single page on the wiki, with detailed info on each model. More as a handy page where folks can say, "OK, I have a Comm Slot II modem, what machines does it go in?" Sort by slot type. This certainly can (and should) be done in a list for completeness. If the infobox for each model is fairly complete, we can also build categories driven from that info--i.e. if you put "30-pin SIMM" for RAM type, the article would automatically appear in the "Machines using 30-pin SIMMs" category. Wikipedia has three "types" of classifications for Macs, but on a specialist wiki like this we could go really nuts with it.
If you are interested in expansion slots specifically, please provide a list of all the types there are, and I could sure build something into the infobox template to categorize on that.

Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2007-07-24 09:17:22 Holy smoke, I didn't realize there were that many slot types!
Someone stubbed in a Centris 650 article, and I've added the infobox to it so you can see how it shapes up. It's a work in progress; suggestions welcome.

Posted by: equant on 2007-07-24 10:35:15 It's a nice start. People seem timid to write articles. Just start. We can work out formatting once we get some progress. Everything is fixable, and a consensus is sometimes easier to reach after some progress is made.

Posted by: aftermac on 2007-08-25 11:42:12 Ok, I bit. I've never edited a wiki before, so this is a learning experience. I added some information about the IIsi having audio input. People have been encouraged to contribute, so I decided to add my 2-cents.

Which, of course, is the goal. Every sentence counts [😉] ]'>
