How the heck do you do that?? I know how to do the PDFs but not zips. Highlight the item(s) in the finder and then select "Create Archive of xxx" from the File(?) menu... you can also get to it from the "cog" menu in any Finder window. I'm going from memeory, so I might be a little off here...
Edit: looks like that feature came in with 10.3

Having been using OS9 as my main OS for the past few days, I'm starting to see its limitations. And I actually miss some of the features of OSX, which surprised me. For creative stuff (graphics, music, web design etc...) I pretty much stick with OS 9, though I do miss being able to create zip archives and pdfs without having to launch separate apps... the only thing that _really_ bothers me about OS 9 is that the available browsers are really starting to show their age.
iCab is still being developed as far as I know. I think that's the only classic one that stands any chance of catching up with the rest of the browser world.

Not really a Retrochallenge; just because I hate OS X. 😛

For some reason, a tiny little CRT makes everything look pretty. If you try it you'll see what I mean. OK, it's cramped but it's visually pleasing. I hated the look of Tiger before but now I love it. And yes, that screen was formerly from my only Windows machine which runs '98. I never use that computer so I just nicked its screen.
And yes I'm wondering why I got the Laserjet now. Probably just because it was $250 and I figured it would be worth having. Both those times that I've used it were for tests too!! 😀

What resolution is it? OS X at 800x600 is OK but a little cramped, though if it's 1024x768 it's fine. As for the LaserJet, was that new or used? They seem pretty cheap these days, it wasn't long ago that a colour laser printer was completely out of reach to any mere mortals.

I think it's 800x600.
I personally think CRTs look better than LCDs at any resolution. They're softer and nicer. 😀
The printer was used but it had been thoroughly checked out by HP technicians before sale, with a year's warranty.

Some CRTs are just plain awful. Particularly the older Ipex CRTs, which are prone to flicker and failure, even at higher refresh rates. The controls are also terrible, requiring a single button and a wheel to control them and as such, you often end up on a different menu item from the one you intended to use. We have about 50 of them and they almost always cause eye strain, etc. Not sure of their age.
The Compaq CRTs are excellent displays with basically no flicker, even at 60hz, and they take higher resolutions than most. Particularly the Compaq 7500.

Those old Ipex CRTs make me seasick, literally. The ones you're talking about are from 1999...when my school "upgraded" to Ipex Celeron 300's, they all had those displays. I don't know why, they just do make me feel crap. Funnily enough i never seem to have the same problem with most other CRTs, not even my crap old 13" "PROFOUND" SVGA CRT. Although its not just Ipex ones that make me feel like that...i have the same problem with Comapq displays from 1999/2000, the ones that were rebadged Daewoo ones.
I have to agree with you though on the Compaq 7500's...at my old job we had one of those on the Power Mac G5...very nice. 🙂

Update on my using OS 9 as my main system: about 3 days after I posted that, I tried to run Colour-It, it crashed and brought the system down and I had to reinstall the whole thing. heh. It was good for its day but maybe not so good as a main system nowadays. I still prefer the interface though. It works well on my Wallstreet.

I might try to create world 3 of my super awesome 3D haven't-started-yet game using Blender on an LC. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever get around to doing so.

My roommate has a trinitron CRT, and I'm kinda jealous of it.
LCDs suck for image quality, but at least they are small, light, and moderately more energy efficient.

Having been using OS9 as my main OS for the past few days, I'm starting to see its limitations. And I actually miss some of the features of OSX, which surprised me. The main thing that I miss from OS X is Exposé. That's such a wonderful feature, and I wish that there were some way to get it for OS 9. Other than that, and some mildly out-of-date browsers, It's not too bad. I wish I had a few more USB ports. I'm used to having 11 on my G4 😛
