Posted by: The Macster on 2007-05-02 13:08:45 Oh OK then! π I'll have a Mac instead π So many other options though: the face of the almighty God of Computing himself, a Start button, my Vista box, my Acer PC...
π
I'm surprised no-ones pulled the old Major insignia (or even the one above that, if it got cached anyway) out of a cache and made that their avatar yet!

Posted by: Patrickool93 on 2007-05-02 13:11:46 I put my 1st lieutenant one up π

Posted by: QuadSix50 on 2007-05-02 16:21:24 I had to include my little Q650 with Tux inside (okay, so it's the Mac-on-Linux mascot, but he still looks cute π ).

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2007-05-02 17:41:22 This one's compact enough (in more ways than one) so I'm going to try it...

Posted by: iMac600 on 2007-05-02 23:48:00 The avatars look great I may add. I didn't think they would work, but I suppose they do!
Just one more thing I need to consider now. :π
PS. This is the closest thread to ask in... but what happened to the Platinum frontend? SubSilver is a nice theme, it just feels so cold compared to the old one. :b&w:

Rank insignias. Go with the classics, the heritage. π In my innocence I thought that this notion had been well-and-truly canvassed shortly before the 68K MLA Forum went AWOL, with the preponderance of sentiment being for retention of the military conceit rather than the self-centred (even if that is very 'now') free-for-all of 'personal expression'. As for recognition of others, is that not what names are for?
I agree that post count magnifies the contribution of machine-posters, but I cling, perhaps naΓ―vely, to the idea that the quality and content of worthwhile posts will shine through, especially to those who have mastered the art of drawing sense from the written word without needing to be cued with graphic symbols.
Why not continue with what we had? The whole point of a system of ranks is not only to promote, but also to level. It's not a matter of accident that armies have few generals and many privates.

Posted by: iMac600 on 2007-05-03 06:28:23 I have my old captain rank insignia in place as an avatar while this is all officially sorted.
I would like to see the 68kMLA return to the Army format again. Remember the days when our signatures contained something along the lines of "Lieutenant Commander" or "Captain, Intelligence Operations"? The 2 words we used so often, "Covert Ops"? What happened? We had a perfect theme going until about Mid 2006.
Give the Army another go. The holiday breaks are over, it's time to get back on the front lines. Get inspired, read the archives.

PS. I've added my army status back in to my signature. Ready for duty.

Posted by: vassilizaitsev on 2007-05-03 08:35:50 I'm in on the 80 by 80, 40k.
If you want art then make it, if it's a good piece of art you can make it work in 80 by 80 40k?
Lets see who gets the most recognisable avatar

Posted by: steve30 on 2007-05-03 09:45:09 I usually identify people by their avatars, which is why I find them really useful.
