Johnnya101's Finds

Large conquests were quite a bit if fun back in the day when nobody wanted old computer "junk". You end up with all kinds of bits you never expected to need but did many years later. These days people want ebay x 10 prices for everything so conquests are usually just single systems.
I still remember the Florida 53'  truck trailer conquest, and then the compact mac conquest of California. No idea what was the total outcome of either one of them, whether sold or etc...

But a large haul conquest would be a fun adrenaline rush for sure!

If any one like AplMak and Anyone else around NH and MA hears of one, I'm up for it!

It's an Astec.
Well that's good news, as I think consensus is those have held up much better over the years! I'm sure some need to be dealt with, but odds are in your favor. Try it out!

I will! I've been really super busy this past week... just sold a few computers (One Mac) so packing takes a lot of time.

I need the PS out of a 63X

Managed to snag a IIfx that wasn't turning on. I'm hoping it's batteries.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2017-05-05 15:54:09
The IIfx won't power on if the batteries are dead or missing, so it not powering on isn't necessarily indicative of a catastrophic problem.

So, hopefully you'll be lucky!

I know, thank you! I've got to order like 10 now for everything...

Just purchased another Quadra 700!

Posted by: Johnnya101 on 2017-05-13 18:26:48
Just received both today...

Seller had foam holding everything in place. Luckily everything arrived safely!

The IIfx being untested, made me not have very high hopes in fear of exploded batteries... Of course I opened it right up and saw the red... fully intact! 😀 Another two bombs defused! (Well tomorrow morning...).

The 700 I'm guessing has one too, luckily it works so i know it hasn't gone off yet. No VRAM though... is there any onboard or do I need any sticks?

512K is onboard.

Oh, thanks! That's great, cause that vram is expensive.

68K VRAM is hard to find and pricey. PPC VRAM used to be super cheap but it is getting harder to get as well (used to rip off a few modules to upgrade old high end VLB video cards for my 486 machines).

x100 Power Mac cache modules aren't easy to find either, which is a shame as my 6116 doesn't have one.

Do you know the model number? I have some cache modules around here somewhere from back when I was building up my 6100/7100/8100 units (don't feel like tearing into them to look).

Not off hand, I would have to research it.

You said it Unknown_K... I had some pretty awesome machines back when I was in high school. The funny thing is all I had back then pretty much was Christmas money, so it was that affordable at the time. Now I am kicking myself because I sold most of it or donated it.

I used to spend $50 a month on my collection a decade ago and got tons of stuff for free. Used to be a cheap hobby.

Jeez, just installed 6.0.8 on the IIfx. It really stands up to its reputation! It flies! Wish it had more than 8MB ram, but obviously that was plenty for what it was used for.

8MB for OS 6 is huge, and you don't have to mess with mode32.

Not to mention System 6 only runs in 24-bit addressing mode. 8MB is plenty. Also remember that multitasking under System 6 is optional. Applications that were RAM hogs didn't really start to show up until the System 7 era.

Hey johnnya101, since you have used both systems, and you said "it flies" to both, which one seemed faster: the IIfx with System 6, or my 638CD with 7.1.2P?
