Hmm... perhaps a melamine foam sponge (Mr. Clean Magic Eraser)could have/could still help? I dunno, it's probably not the best thing for the plastic, as it is somewhat abrasive, but it might still be a good idea...

Sorry I came off so harsh, I just get frustrated when people don't fully understand the chemicals they are working with!
White discoloration should be okay, after all it was painted! I'd leave it just for fun 🙂
I dunno about magic eraser, I think the damage to the plastic has been done. For removing paint, magic eraser could help.

I have a replacement bezel but I'm in France. You could have it for the price of shipping but that would be about $40 (large boxes are quite expensive)
You could re-paint yours, and do a much better job I'm sure (wouldn't be that hard lol).
OR, alternatively, you could bring the bucket to one of those paint shops that have a paint scanner. Scan the bucket and buy the exact color from them.
If the paint does not match up perfectly, why don't you paint the whole case? It would look kinda cool. And paint the apple Logo on the front red while you're at it ('cos it's monochrome anyway) and you'd get a nice result I think. Totally unique as well!

That's what I was thinking... do paint stripes or a custom apple logo on the sides!!!
