Posted by: Byrd on 2025-12-19 15:56:40 What happens with the card in a stock IIfx - no boot or crashes? |

@Bolle I presume you already reached out to JDW? He speaks Japanese. (I feel like we've already discussed this several times before. 😛) He left this forum a few years ago, I think.

Posted by: Capt_Redbeard on 2025-12-22 18:05:45 Is there any value to this card on its own? I don’t really have a use for it. |
Posted by: mg.man on 2025-12-22 18:17:13 Well... I have a IIfx and woukd be happy to have it off you - on the chance someone, someday manages to reverse the PAL. Feel free to DM me if you're interested. |

Is there any value to this card on its own? I don’t really have a use for it. It is difficult to assign a value beyond rarity given the card is inoperable, currently. I would suggest lending to someone for nondestructive reverse engineering before selling it. @Bolle, @max1zzz come to mind. (I've the capabilities for this too but have too many projects to commit to this anytime soon.)
Not trying to tell you what to do or anything.... but this way it'd have some value to the community rather than disappearing into a private collection. With hardware in hand it opens the possibility of figuring out what needs to be done with the LB GAL modification by trial and error/logic capture. |

rather than disappearing into a private collection Perhaps you should consider that many of my 'private collection' items have been loaned to other MLAers - including one you've mentioned - for this very purpose. From what I've read, it's a modified IIfx logic board that is what's needed here for reversing. |

From what I've read, it's a modified IIfx logic board that is what's needed here for reversing. I wasn't aiming that at you or anyone else in particular; it was a general statement as it's a regrettably common scenario when it comes to vintage hardware. I'm sorry if that came off as targeting you. Unfortunately, not all folks are as open to lending rare hardware.
To my knowledge neither the card nor the related PAL have been reverse engineered, but the card is the important piece. |

it was a general statement as it's a regrettably common scenario when it comes to vintage hardware Timing could have been better. I was simply trying to offer the OP a recoup on whatever he'd sunk into it. As I said, I've regularly loaned out or passed on rare items to fuel the reversing efforts, and being on the other side of the pond (tho I also have a US address) makes it easier (and more cost-effective) for me to ferry items from US to UK/EU. |
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2025-12-22 19:41:00 If vintage hardware doesn't end up in a private collection it ends up recycled or at the dump. Many of us here snagged the rarities when they were worthless before collecting was a thing. It's not like people are paying $20K for every Tokamac ever made to corner the market and drives up prices to profit later. |
