Mac Plus Socket the 68000

Well today was the big day. I got the chip out. I also got the new socket in. Things went okay. I found 3 broken traces but was able to scratch out some wire and bogded them back together.

It isn’t the prettiest but it tones out.
I broke a pin of the processor. So I am off to the eBay to get a new one. I did try soldering it back on but it would just break off each time.

So what is the difference between the 68000p8 and the 68000p10? Is it just a different revision?

I think it refers to the maximum clock frequency of the part. -8 means an 8 MHz speed limit, 10 means you can go up to 10 MHz. Either should work fine in a Plus.

The "p" is for Plastic dual in-line package. (Other manufacturers say that differently, but that's what it means for a 68000.)

Shame about the broken pin, but don't throw away the chip, I say: keep it around for when your soldering skills improve (or dremelling skills if you broke it off right at the edge of the package!) and you can bodge on a replacement leg.

Mine lost a pin as well. If I ever reuse it, I can always solder a leg to the remaining metal and socket it.
