Seeking advice on final resolution with eBay seller.

They hold money for new members to make sure its not a scam.

Maybe eBay was holding the funds I paid and he was too broke to pay for return shipping. 🤷‍♂️

Is that going to be a new future cop out of problems, "My AI messed up, not me".

We are living in the future. They promised us jet packs and flying cars. Instead, we got AI than can't count. 🤣

Out of curiosity did he have other auctions that sold and worked out?

The rich have had jet packs for a long time.

By AI it could just be ebay allowing you to copy another auction "sell one like this"

Yea, if he has an eBay store you can report to Better Business Bureau too.

According to his eBay profile, he has 3 active listings and 2 items sold. I assume one of the "sold" items is mine.

I don't 100% remember but I think he used to have a listing for a Mac II series case or motherboard. That's probably the other sold item.

I really have no sympathy for this kind of seller whose attitude sucks, and were prepared to rip you off. Simply put they gambled and lost. I would encourage you not to send them money since this has been handled by eBay.

Consider also that the scammy seller may have kept the cash regardless — eBay might have refunded you out of their own pot.

I wondered about the outcome of that auction.

That said, the seller is definitely full of 💩 as ebay doesn't pay out funds for a week or so after the order even for established sellers. Unless maybe he was using the "shop with sold item funds" or whatever ebay calls it that allows you to buy stuff through ebay before the payout would hit your bank account. Either way, that's on him....

For my peace of mind I'd take David Cook's approach. Send him something fair.

Keep in mind that reaching out and paying the seller outside of eBay risks losing your eBay account, as it violates eBay rules (eBay will miss out on their share of the payment). I ran into a similar situation not too long ago, and ended up having to live with feeling lousy about it. In your case, the seller was given ample opportunity to respond to eBay and defend what happened, and chose not to. Essentially, he chose not to be paid. That is not your fault. Please don't risk losing your eBay account over it.

I'm unsure if eBay "takes" the money from the seller or they simply refunded you to solve the issue. So, the seller most likely retained what you paid. Like I said, I'm unsure.
Yes, they most likely absorbed the cost, that's been my experience of this before from the seller end.
