G3 All In One AIO Molar Mac personality card intercompatibility?
Posted by: Trekintosh on 2025-02-26 12:54:18
@Trekintosh just in case you might be wondering about this too, I don't know if this applies to all of them or not but if your a/v card doesn't have a 10-pin header for the apple tv-or-tvfm tuner daughtercard then it is only a few passive components and a new header (or I guess one can hotwire a permanent ribbon to the wing card itself instead if one really wanted to) to add physical support onto the card - the data support is already there in the first place afaik
Thanks for the info for future googlers, but personally I did actually know that. I found an old blog post with the info! I think I'll pass on the TV tuner card for my particular molar, but I am interested in replacing the microphone with an IR receiver and tucking the front panel board from a 5xxx in there since apparently that will work. The idea of being able to turn on both my 5400s and my molar at the same time with an IR remote just tickles me.

It boots, you just get no chime.
You don’t get a system error as the system loads up under Mac OS 9.x?

Mine didn't, first rev. board, do the newer boards boot , but not the first?
It’s not to do with hardware or ROM revisions, it’s to do with certain versions of the system software (notably 9.x) expecting to see a Personality card and crashing if it’s not there.

To add some more data to this, I can't boot my Beige without a Personality card under Mac OS 9.2.2 (it crashes with a system error even with extensions off); but I am able to boot under OS 9.1, which is great.
