| Apple LaserWriter 16/600 hard drive upgrade |
Posted by: olePigeon on 2024-11-20 10:41:42 @beachycove Maybe the LaserWriter doesn't do it. I don't know. Or maybe it was unique to the business line of HP LaserJets. The only time it'd be useful is if you had multiple people printing large documents. It'd spool the print job to the printer and store it there. I don't know if it was any faster, but it freed up resources on your own computer. We made extensive use of ours in the computer lab. |

Revisiting this because of the latest posts, but I looked at the photos again and I see... electrolytic caps on that LW logicboard. I am not sure how old your LaserWriter is but it's probably worth thinking about a recap at some point? @Durosity It has been on my mind, but I’ve had a severe case of the cantbearseds the last year or so.. but yeah, they do need doing at some point.
Out of curiosity, have you tried the 16/600 PS for "modern" printing? I've read it's possible if you set an IP address using the classic Mac utility... but I'm not sure if that's via lpd or...
I actually do use this printer as my main printer. I have the PDD file added to my Mac Studio and it prints directly using that. It works incredibly well. I also have an AirPrint server setup on the Mac so I can print to it via my iPhone. |
