Why make things harder than they have to be?

There's nothing wrong with using the Installer SDK if that's what one wants to do, but the main reason why these "lesser" tools existed in the first place was to make creating installers easier, so why not use them to make creating installers... easier? @cluster_fsck was merely suggesting Installer VISE as a a popular, easier-to-use alternative to the Installer SDK that, despite being ugly and unprofessional, was and is "good enough" for most purposes (as I recall, a number of software packages – including some Apple titles – used a Carbonized version of Installer VISE well into the Mac OS X era).

That said, there may be some special features of the Installer SDK that none of the others have which are needed for @halkyardo 's ethernet drivers to install correctly, so it may be moot anyway.
