Beige PowerMac G3 Capacitor Replacement
Posted by: shadedream on 2024-08-01 17:44:07
Just looked into this. My VRM labelled 'Switch Power', Apple P/N 614-0081, has 4x 680uF 10V caps. So some VRM use different caps.
Good to know. Always worth confirming everything in any guide on your board anyway. Apple likes revisions and likes to change things.

Wonder why they had the VRM on a separate board, never seen that in any other consumer-level machine.

A lot of x86 server/Pentium Pro etc systems of this era had plug in VRMs. Often the issue with these now is they’re missing to upgrade to dual sockets if you come across one. Maybe it was cheaper to do at the time with the beige G3 confirming to a few PC-like standards.
