I don't have an original Gemini sorry, just newer cards. I suspect it supports 16MB though.

I don't disable my card, but the linked manual says use the programmer's buttons. I suspect that will be the same for your card. Have a look through the manual.
I'll take a look, thanks for the help and the GemStart 2.2 drivers.

You need to use Virtual to get the RAM working.

Pick your card while installing.

One extra thing with the switches, we worked out that if you remove all the RAM from the upgrade, switch 1 lets you tell it to use logic board RAM. Switch 2 doesn't seem to do anything.

The other two are the same as the Vandal.

BTW - what speed is your Ultima?
Whoa, that's interesting. I wonder why the manuals claim those just don't do anything.

Stock it was 20MHz, but I've pushed it to 40 stable (with a supposedly 50MHz '030). Definitely have to flip some wait states for the memory though.

Same, my 20MHz board can go to 40MHz with a faster chip.

Interesting. The manuals (and ads) all claim it can do 50MHz but I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone with one.

I thought maybe it was the memory latency but even with maximum wait states and 60ns memory, no dice here. So I figured I had a mislabeled '030 but if your experience is the same...maybe not.

The 50MHz ones had faster speed grade logic chips on them than the slower ones. My 50MHz Gemini Ultra does 50MHz. Haven't tried overclocking it.

Ahhhh that'll do it. I wonder if that's the only difference. Kinda snubs their whole "swap the oscillator for any upgrade" advertising.

Did they advertise that?

40 out of a 20MHz board isn't bad to be fair.

I'll have to see where I can dig it up. It was something about it being "field upgradable" thanks to the sockets. I wonder if they just didn't anticipate the 50MHz at that point, so it was technically true up through 40.

What's the difference in speed ratings between the < 50 and 50 boards?

Oh, its years since I was looking and there are like 4 different speed grades spread over the board. I was considering trying to put faster parts on mine, but the component shortage hit and I cancelled the order with digikey after 8 months with no parts.
