Are you replacing the RIFAs? They had the good ones thankfully but yes I figure might as well if I'm doing the whole thing. |

Yeah but it wasn't bad it just smokes, they aren't really necessary. Apparently if you leave them out it's bad for your house's AC line. That's just something I heard from others so not sure if it's true. |

Yeah well that's what it is it filters mains input. I wonder if it's possible for a Mac Plus to sustain damage from a lack of RIFAs? Also, do you know if the SE has RIFAs? I'm too nervous to poke around mine to check. |

No need to be nervous, Just need to discharge the CRT. I attached a video below showing you how to do that. And if I recall almost all Power Supplies in these compacts had at least one RIFA.

I actually used this video when replacing my Plus's RIFAs! The SE is scary to me because it's got an inconsistent high pitched whine, has that massive neck board, and there is a HDD taped on top of the two 800K drives. I tend to leave it alone for these reasons. Interesting they all have at least one RIFA, as the Plus has 3. |

Whine sounds like Flyback, why don't you post it a thread? I've been meaning to do that but I haven't been able to capture footage of it (It's too inconsistent). Maybe I'll give it a go now! |
