It wasn't long before System 7 came out and I became an AppleScript addict. Whenever it was that the "Finder" became scriptable was where I stayed for years all with a loaded Mac IIsi. I loved to automate everything. When connected to an Appletalk network, remote automation and program linking was insane! It wasn't unusual to sit home on a Saturday night and write scripts. I know, what a nerd. Have you ever used MacroMaker™ DA in System 6?
There are several kids I grew up with that just loved to do OS Installs. They got a kick out of erasing disks and Installing Mac OS. They never used many apps just played with reconfiguring their Mac constantly. | Posted by: PolaroidSwinger on 2022-10-14 11:20:24 I was raised on System 7, but I'm most nostalgic for Leopard.
First time I saw it I thought it was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen in my life. Never been so impressed by software before or since. | Posted by: PolaroidSwinger on 2022-10-14 11:21:14 . | Posted by: mikes-macs on 2022-10-15 21:30:14
I'm most nostalgic for Leopard. Yea, I agreed Leopard was a break-thru OS for me as well. | Posted by: volvo242gt on 2022-10-16 18:19:13 68000-68020 Macs, 6.0.8.
68030 Macs, if not a whole lot of RAM, 6.0.8 as well. If enough RAM, then 7.5, but with stuff like the Launcher disabled, and Apple Guide removed.
68040 Macs, probably 7.6.1. 8.1 works well, but I found it to be a bit slow on the '040 Macs I tried it with.
Pre-G3 Macs, 8.1 or 8.6, depending on RAM and speed. If fast enough, then 9.2.2 installed with OS 9 Helper works well.
G3/G4 Macs that can run 9, 9.2.2 dual booted with 10.4.11.
Intel Macs, 10.6.8 for those that can't easily run 10.8 or higher, and 10.9.5 for those that can run it. Don't care for the flat interface used under 10.10 or newer, unfortunately. | Posted by: chelseayr on 2022-10-18 04:58:59 I started with performa-specific 7.5.3 (7.5.5 then eventually 8.5 was installed onto that, don't think anyone in the family ever bothered wiping the hd for more than 10 years! I guess 8.5 on just hfs was somehow still relatively stable) but otherwise had used a bit of 7.0 (what was still preinstalled on a well used powerbook bought from a now-closed electronic recycler) in b&w colours .. and 9.1 on misc other things for a little bit on and off
I'll admit that partly due to the gui/ux itself among other things I'm being quite interested in getting on with 7.6.1 at this moment :-> | Posted by: atax1a on 2022-10-24 08:28:27 personally: Mac OS 9 on the G4 series, with Carracho Client, and an IRC client running under screen in MacSSH. | | < 2 |
