Or, if you really want to stock up... $1.80 each with free shipping on orders over $50. Yeah, if you have a big collection, 28 of these puppies would hit your $50 mark for free shipping.

I picked up abunch of those little buggers when radio shack was closing its local stores. 90% off.

You could try a supercapacitor instead of the battery, the size is similar and I'm sure you can "modify" the board to charge it when the machine is on

You could use Applescript to record you opening and setting the control panels for mouse, etc, then drop the script and an alias of the Date & Time CP into Startup Items.

Wasnt there an extension that would save all PRAM data, and restore it on startup? Sure no TOD clock, but mouse settings and everything else would be good.

From what I understand, the battery delivers only a trickle when unplugged. If plugged in, the trickle is likely less. Keeping the mac plugged into the mains even if off for a few days shouldn't cause the battery to live short term.

I agree that removing the batter is best when the computer is disconnected from an outlet for several week/months

I came across this old thread looking for a replacement battery for my SE/30 that won't leak.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2AA-Size-ER14250-3-6V-1200-mAh-Lithium-Battery-/170827783822

$4 with free shipping.

The OmniCel 1/2 AA ER14250 battery in this ebay listing has lithium thionyl chloride inside according to datasheet - a liquid:

The safety sheet for this battery on the merchant's page mentions a liquid electrolyte - its the same chemistry as the battery above.

Are all rechargeable lithium batteries like this?

I meant to say non-rechargeable (primary) lithium batteries.

I just dont get this post - adjusting the volume , adjusting the mouse speed , so annoying !!!!!

time and date !!!!!.......... its just too much !!!!!

lets just hope you never had to save any work onto cassette , just to loose hours and hours of typing

volume is the only thing I might ever adjust - the rest ... who cares

time and date ? - i have a watch on my hand

mouse speed - im just happy to see the cursor moving at all

If you use pgreenland's ATTiny85-based RTC replacement, it stores parameters like mouse speed and volume in EEPROM. If you have a network connection, the Network Time control panel can set the correct date and time on boot for you. The combination of these two solves all the issues with running battery-less for me.

what????????????????? that's a massive game changer. does it store network selection there too?

It should. Anything what would normally be in PRAM. A ZuluSCSI is the only network device on the machine I'm using it with, and I'm only using either MacTCP or OT.
