Yeah, see here: "The new Sonora integrated controller combines the features of the V8 chip (timing, address decoding, video generation, sound control, and general logic circuits) and the SWIM2 chip (floppy disk control) while providing support for more video display modes and higher processor speeds." Sweet! That document provides a lot of information on the subject, thanks. The only thing it doesn’t say is what the chip’s numbering is or what it looks like so I can find it on the motherboard 😛
in any case, unless I can find something wrong with the traces to it or whatever, I doubt it will be easy to find a replacement for just that chip right?

It's the big chip, slightly off center on the logic board, next door to the SCSI controller. Has a 1992 Apple copyright notice.

Yep.
Great… I just did another cleaning of it just in case, and nothing same thing…
I guess maybe something’s fucked up on it or a trace or whatever because power gets to the port but something is definitely missing because the disks sit there an idle
