that would be funny. I'm not joking, look at the pic

Posted by: MOS8_030 on 2018-04-30 09:54:54 The Mac Classic is officially no longer supported by Apple.
No one at the Apple store can help you with any old Mac hardware.

Posted by: Verault on 2018-04-30 10:05:10 yeah you dont want some kid who knows nothing about CRT dicharging touching the power supply.

yeah you don't want some kid who knows nothing about CRT discharging touching the power supply. I would question whether or not anyone at an Apple store could even tell you what "CRT" stands for...

Posted by: Verault on 2018-04-30 10:15:43 What are we worrying about?! they would never be able to open a compact mac without a mac cracker. a bit that long is very unlikely to be in thier tool bench.

Posted by: Retro Rider on 2018-04-30 14:41:21 Nevermind I had to cancel

Posted by: Retro Rider on 2018-04-30 14:42:24 But I still need to fix this. I might need to get a new analog board
|
Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 05:46:44 Dont give up on the analog board yet! A New old one will just break on you again and need repair.. Lets backtrack. What components have you replaced? What references have you followed, part lists? You have a Mac SE or Mac se/30?

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 08:56:21 Why do I keep thinking you have an SE!? Sorry.
Your right, there arent alot of documents on the classic or classic II (but im told they are pretty similar to the SE even interchangeable) hopefully someone can comment on that.
First thing you want to do is right down the values of every electrolytic cap and order them on say digikey or some other site, shouldnt cost all that much (I would get two of each just in case, these components are pretty cheap)
My classic analog board had battery acid cause the caps to leak.. So the traces are good but all caps were bad (whole board smells of bad fish) Im still cleaning it and I have replaced most of the caps already. Hopefully that will do the task.. I cannot test it until I get a new logic board as the bad battery completely destroyed it... it was corroded all the way through in many places.
Anyone on here have a classic logic board to sell? I think its part number 820-0390-03
but retro rider, that is the first thing you should do. Have experience soldering/desoldering?

9 Firstly, yes, also, no, the SE parts aren't very interchangeable (Except the floppy drive or HD). Also, Would you mean what it is like 'dc2' bc idk if it would come up on digikey. Also, I have no experience with soldering/desoldering.
PS: you should post your logic board wanted ad on the trade section

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 10:30:05 Thanks I will post there, also. What is DC2? I dont have my unit or a schematic handy.
Ill be honest without soldering or desoldering skills your only options is board swapout.

5 I just used that as an example, idk if that is really on there. Since I would need a new board, where can I get one? Preferably for cheap. I have 2 so maybe I can practice on one and do the repair on the other.

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 11:18:01 cheap?

neither is cheap, but you need to hunt around.

Posted by: Retro Rider on 2018-05-01 11:25:05 What about recapping services? I think I've heard about those. They'll probably recap an analog board.

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 12:00:33 Id do it for you if you bought all the caps. But again, I cant test it without a new motherboard..... geeze let me go post that now so someone on here can notify me if they have one!

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 12:08:06 ok made a thread!

I have 2 motherboards that I could maybe give to you but one of them, the capacitors are definitely dead and the other is one I’m kinda hesitant of mailing

Posted by: Verault on 2018-05-01 15:12:22 and so goes the dilemma of retro computing.
|
Posted by: Retro Rider on 2018-05-02 06:52:43 mmm, the good thing is I got something working right now, I replaced the hard drive from the classic and it worked on my SE/30 which is the only one that works. But I still really, really want this to work. One reason is that the hard drive came from the classic and also the case. I got a project I'm doing about old macs and told the teacher I'll bring in some (my SE/30 and Macintosh portable) that work.
