I was until i spent £500-600 on old computer stuff last month, not i have no bits and nearly divorced

Yeah... I like to keep my bits, so I have to sneak things in under the radar-- playing the long game getting new items every other month or so. The exceptions being freebies.
What specific Asante card do you have in that SE/30? If it's a Mac Con with just an early daughter board, maybe you could fit a FriendlyNet adapter inside to give you twisted pair.
