Fun at the local auction

Got a little over half the haul picked up this evening.  Even better than the computers is all the parts and other odd and ends this guy had.  Lots of new in box mainboards (including IIe boards), analog boards, power supplies, etc.  Need to head down tomorrow and grab the rest and then finish sorting.  Yes, a lot of this will be sold off, I don't need this much hardware. 🙂

This will buff out right?  Fortunately this is the only one I've found with battery damage so far, even though everything was stored with a battery.  Bigger issue is the mice. If they was a panel cover missing, there was "rodent activity" inside.

Fortunately...

Pens!

That's a big hard drive in the old Mac II

Happy day (although I may need these, haven't torn into the SE/30 and I still need a Color Classic II someday)

I found the mention in the auction description of a video card in one of the SE/30s to be intriguing. Please keep us updated on your wonderful acquisition.

It says video card but the ethernet cards had a db15 looking connection on them, or a radius external video card.

Pens indeed!

Went through most of the non-compact desktops pulling batteries.  So far it looks like exploding battery syndrome has only claimed a LCIII, IIcx, and IIci mainboard.  Maybe a Quadra 605, but that one still looks recoverable with a little work.

Found a couple of Daystar's, a 68030 in one of the IIci's

And a 68040 (on a riser) in one of the IIsi's

That is the cool part of this hobby - finding fun things that are hidden inside!

...obviously not the batteries 😉

Its hard to believe any AASP would be stupid enough to leave the batteries in all those machines. If so, they should be shot.

Nice! A PowerCache and a Turbo 040.  Upgrade that puppy to a full 040.

Woohoo! 50 MHz too. Very nice.

Is there a cache module on the back? It connects to that header strip at the top of the card.

Can you upgrade the cacheless version with a full 040?  Or do you need the cache card?

An '040 is an '040, and the full version is pin compatible with the LC version, so why not?

Such a cool find. I did a tear down on one of those Mac II 5.25" HDDs. Huge, and they get so hot. It wasn't working, so no harm taking it apart. When we opened it and powered it up the head arm freaked out so much it snapped one of the heads off. Hilarious. Unfortunately that was the only bit I didn't get on video.

You've got a lot to do 🙂 , but if you get the chance please report on the amount and type of memory in the Mac IIs. Both LazarusNine and I would be interested in knowing.

Awesome, awesome find. The upgrades and service parts sure make it even more interesting!!

Wow now that's a score!!! I already have problems stocking ~45 Macs + a bit less than the same amount of other computers.
