| A little bit of Lisa . . . |
Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-27 09:26:38 There was a big discussion on Vintage Computer Forum. People seem to be split 50/50 on what to do. Half think no one should buy any of it and wait to see the results of the appeal, and the other half think we should buy it all up else it'll end up in the hands of gold scrappers. At the very least, if the computer hobbyists buy it up, we know the pieces will be going to people who will take good care of them.
I don't know, they both have really good arguments. Currently having to part with a lot of my own favorite computers, I know it's tough. I couldn't imagine seeing a lifetime worth of collectables be taken away. But you hafta pay your bills, man. Only thing to it. 🙁

Posted by: krye on 2013-03-27 11:20:37 Can't wait for the prices to come down on huge 3D printers. (Think when laser printers were $8,000, and now you can get one for $100 bucks.) It'll be a good day when we can just "print" a Lisa.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-27 15:06:16 Rip Rap are relatively cheap, but the quality is... meh.
The powder based printers work the best, but are very, very expensive. A multi-axis CNC router might be a better way to go.

It'll be a good day when we can just "print" a Lisa. Still need all the internal components. 😀
It is my dream to one day have a Lisa.

Half think no one should buy any of it and wait to see the results of the appeal, and the other half think we should buy it all up else it'll end up in the hands of gold scrappers. From what I read through from Sellam and the locals almost all of his documentation got recycled and anything that didn't immediately show up on ebay or google was also recycled.
50+ skids of stuff take up a lot of space. tvr being a recycler could get money out of it regardless of it being on ebay or not and they had a pretty large bill from the truck rentals and such. If anything, they were being nice to put the really good stuff on ebay.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-03-27 21:26:24 Thanks, now I know what discussion oP was talking about. Canadian law must be way different from here.
If a tenant stops paying rent around here, out the stuff goes! I hear there's even a TV show about vultures hoping to find and bid on the contents of abandoned storage rooms like the one I lost when I was hospitalized the first time around.
Tough nuggies fella! :approve:

Posted by: krye on 2013-03-28 05:30:20 I too dream of a Lisa and a TAM. I swore this would be the year that I get both. It's already close to April and still nothing. Hopefully the wife lets me tap the tax refund.
Then again, I just bought her a $600 dollar pair of diamond earrings for her birthday, so come my birthday in June, she won't be able to argue a $600 Lisa/TAM purchase! (I hope.)

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-03-28 07:28:51 Perchance to dream . . . 😉
Here's my dream of A little bit of Lisa . . .

. . . it's what I can afford in terms of filthy Lucre . . .
. . . and display space, no peripherals, just the slide show in all its 24bit glory and more of the collection arrayed in front/below. [😀] ]'>

Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-28 08:38:19 How about a vertical mount CD-ROM in that blank area?

Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-28 08:45:50 I called TVR, my curiosity got the best of me.
Believe it or not, they still have filing cabinets filled with papers, documentation, manuals, etc. Pallets of magazines, file folders, and other papers. They still have a lot of stuff, and they aren't scrapping everything.
I live about an hour from the place. I think I'm going to give him another call, see if I can't just take all the documents for free. It's not something he can recycle for cash, and he'd save money by not having to pay his employees to toss out paper when they could be doing other things.
Anyone else live in the area? Maybe we can make a trip out of it and get as many people up there to save the papers.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-28 08:50:30 Similar laws in the U.S. Once you stop paying rent, after 30 days it becomes the property of the owner of the storage unit.

How about a vertical mount CD-ROM in that blank area? Don't really have a need for it, the Pismo has USB. I'm figuring the bezel will be removable per the original or flip up on Eurohinges for cabinets. That way I'll be able to see the freakin' menu bar to service the slide show.
I kind of like the head mount trophy lookin' aspect of the thing. }🙂

Posted by: CC_333 on 2013-03-28 10:19:16 Hi,
I live somewhat nearby. Where is this place, exactly?
I don't think I will be able to make it for a week or two, however. Is this too long?
Are there any machines left?

Are there any machines left? They're located in Stockton.
I have Spring Break coming up in a couple weeks, and have the 8th through 12th off (plus the weekend, of course.) That would be the best time for me to go, anyway. I believe they're only open on weekdays.
I'm sure they have computers left. I'll give another call. I should probably make a thread instead of hijacking trash's. Sorry. 😛

I might be able to arrange something between the 8tth and 12th, but no guarantees.

Posted by: trag on 2013-03-28 13:25:06 If you guys make the trip, please keep a look out for blue kangaroo emblems. That signifies an Outbound product (Mac clones from ~1990). There may be accessories in kangaroo marked boxes as well (white box with blue kangaroo).
Also, any Mac Pluses or SEs with what looks like a ribbon cable with a mini-centronics connector coming out of the lower right vent. Of course, it might just come out the back. It's really a Hirose DX series connector, but it looks a lot like a tiny centronics connector.

LisaP - Pretty cool! an interesting concept. Thanks, uni. I looked for profile views of the Lisa today and came up dry. I think the end-on view is the least attractive angle of the Lisa case design. It looks pretty terrible from what I can see.
Could someone take an end-on shot of a Lisa for me?
|
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-03-28 21:10:07 Never mind the pics, I think I've figured out why the Lisa is almost always photographed at a 3/4 angle or less. The side is, without doubt, its bad side.

Meh! I think I'll take some liberties in designing the rest of the LisaP, the Lisa looks pretty awful from the side and shortening it the way I'd planned . . .
. . . would be a bit worse than just MEH! 😛
